Brenda Hare of Cedar Rapids, Iowa has located records of the wife of Dr. Holmes Sells, 1826-1888, or Dublin, Ohio and Atlanta, Georgia.
On 12 June 1850 Holmes Sells and Amy Davis were married in Franklin County, Ohio. According to the History of the Hart Family, Amy Davis Sells was a daughter of John Davis and Amy Hart. John Davis's father came from Wales before the Revolutionary War, married in 1783 to Ann Simpson, and died in 1832 in Ohio. John Davis was born in 1788 in Solebury Twp., Bucks Co., PA and married in 1813 to Amy Hart, 1784-1847. Amy Davis Sells was the youngest of their seven children, born 24 June 1827 at Dublin, Ohio.
Amy and Holmes Sells had two children: (1) Charles Watts Sells, who died at the age of 11 years in 1862, in Atlanta, Georgia. And (2) John Davis Sells, 1857-1895+.
Holmes Sells was a son of Charles and Amanda Hutchenson Sells; grandson of John and Elizabeth Stroup Sells; and great grandson of Ludwick and Catherine Deardorf Sells, founders of Dublin, Ohio. More on these Sells families is recorded on our Family Celle, CD #2
