Sandy Duncan of St. Joseph, Missouri (sgduncan@excite.com) is searching for records of her grandfather, Herbert Sell, and his siblings.
Herbert Sell was born 19 October 1915 in Chicago, Illinois to Thomas Eldon and Edna Sell.
Thomas Eldon Sell was born 25 September 1886 at Converse, Clinton County, Missouri, son of George and Elizabeth Kephart Sell. Their family is recorded on our Family Celle CD #2, History Volume I, pages 113-117; and in Ken Sell's book, pages 101-103.

Thomas Eldon Sell, 1886-1940, married twice and had 4 or 5 children. His first wife was Anna Fitzgerald (listed as "Nina" on our CD), and she had two or 3 sons:
(1) Ivan Sell, who died in 1974 at Plattsburg, Clinton County, Missouri; buried at the Brethren Cemetery in Clinton County. Our records showed him married to Ruth Maddox.
(2) Philander Sell. Our records indicated that he lived in Pennsylvania. However, Sandy says her family records say his wife was named Ruth, and they are believed to have had two children: a son who died young; and a daughter. Sandy thinks they lived in Michigan.
(3) Henry Sell named in the records of Lester M. Miller of Grandview, Missouri without any further information. (see theory below)
Thomas Eldon Sell married 2nd to Edna (maiden surname unknown), and they are believed to have had two sons:
(4) Herbert Sell, born 19 October 1915 in Chicago, Illinois; Sandy's grandfather. And
(5) William Sell, about whom nothing more is known.
ANY help finding records of this family and their descendants would be appreciated!!
We need marriage records for Thomas Eldon Sell from 1910/12 and 1914/15; birth and death records for his sons, obituaries, etc. for any of there family members. The 1910 and 1920 and 1930 Census records for this family might also be helpful.
The Social Security Death Index records an "Ivan Sell, born 29 May 1912, Illinois; died July 1974, Missouri." Most likely this is the eldest son of Thomas Eldon Sell who died at Plattsburg, Missouri. There is also a listing in the SSDI for a "J. Philip Sell, born 15 August 1914, PA; died 19 August 1995, PA." Could this be Ivan's brother???
Theory:
If all of the above records correctly belong to this family, perhaps Anna Fitzgerald Sell died following the birth of Philip/Philander, and Thomas Eldon Sell remarried soon after that to Edna, probably in late 1915 or early 1915. Was the third son we have listed above, Henry, perhaps really the Herbert Sell, born in 1915?
